Of course, everyone knows engagements SHOULD be about love. Sometimes as a photographer you find yourself photographing these sessions and it’s almost just like any other day, and just any other session, and just a couple wanting photos. This past weekend we headed out to the lake to photograph Meagan and Brandon. We are honored to also be their wedding photographers later this year. We had met with them a few times for consults and got to know them enough to know that they love to kayak and in general, be in the water.
Meagan is the sweetest, most softspoken girl I think I’ve ever met. She’s in Vet Tech school, so the lake owner’s very friendly dogs weren’t too much of an issue for her fortunately 🙂 Brandon works for Anhueser Busch (LUCKY!). They met on a blind date about 4 years ago that was set up by some mutual friends. Meagan had sent us some photo ideas before hand to give us an idea of the kind of photos she was interested in. Most of the photos involved water in some way or another. Many of her ideas involved being in a canoe- and we LOVED the idea!
Luckily, Brandon likes being in the water just as much as she does…so he wasn’t complaining…YET. Meagan had another image she really wanted.
And here’s where we get to the part about love. Yes, it was the first week of March. Yes, the water was cold. No, walking barefoot into a freezing lake wasn’t exactly Brandon’s idea of fun. But you know what? He did it. He did it because he loves Meagan and you can tell that his top priority is her happiness. I don’t mean to let on that this was a “whatever gets her off my case” situation…it wasn’t. Any other guy would have outright said “heck no!” Any other guy would have been ready to end the session after the first few minutes, but this wasn’t just any other relationship. It was so very obvious to us that Meagan and Brandon are perfect for each other. When we photographed them, they fit with each other so seamlessly. When they kissed, they kissed like it was the first time…we didn’t really have to instruct them on posing because they posed with love and affection that didn’t really need instruction…and THAT, my friends, is a true engagement session about love.
After our jaunt at the lake, we headed down the road to a creek and snapped a few more moments. These were some of my favorite.
You never know sometimes which way the river will take you, much like a blind date – you just take a chance. I believe there’s a plan for all of us- and it was so wonderful to photograph Meagan and Brandon floating on their path.
